WEEKLY PARASHA: Parasha Kedoshim

Parasha Kedoshim
Leviticus 19:1 – 20:27

This parasha begins with God instructing Moses to speak to the entire community of Israel, saying “You shall be holy, for I, the Eternal your God, am holy.” This is the beginning of what is known as the Holiness Code in which dozens of divine commandments are set forth for the people to follow. These include the prohibition against idolatry, the mitzvah of charity, the principle of equality before the law, the keeping of Shabbat, sexual morality, honesty in business, respect for one’s parents and the sanctity of life. This parasha includes what in modern times is called the Golden Rule – “Love your fellow as yourself.” (Lev. 19:18)
