The 3 and 4 year olds at TSTI’s Iris Family Center love the Wood Working enrichment program on Wednesday afternoons. They get to hammer, saw, drill, glue and paint anything that sparks their imagination. This is truly a class about the process of learning how to use tools safely, making decisions, and adapting ideas along the way as things don’t always go as planned. “I cant do it myself!” “I need a C-Clamp!” “Where is the sandpaper?” Those utterances can commonly be heard from 3 and 4 year olds on a weekly basis! It is amazing to see how the same child who was scared to get a splinter 10 weeks ago, can now be seen being supervised as s/he uses a power jigsaw and/or a hand drill!
