News From the Iris Family Center for Early Childhood Education- June 2, 2011

Dear Parents,

I hope to see all of the 4’s parents at our Moving On ceremony next week, on Friday June 10th. This is an exciting day for your family and I’d like to take a moment to give you a brief overview of the morning’s schedule so you and your child will know what to expect.

Please park and walk your child to his/her classroom between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m.  The teachers will need a few minutes alone with the children before the ceremony begins to settle them down and to make sure the children use the bathroom.

Parents and guests should go to the sanctuaryMoving On will begin promptly at 9:45 a.m.  Feel free to bring cameras and video equipment. I will give you a chance to move to a “Kodak spot” once the children are seated on the Bima (stage area).  A professional videographer will be taping the ceremony, editing & offering a copy free of charge.  If you would like your video personalized there will be a nominal fee; more information to follow.

Without giving away too many surprises, I can tell you that there will be some welcoming comments, presentation of awards for longevity of service, songs by the children, Shabbat blessings by the Rabbis, a short video, and lots of opportunities to be proud of our ‘Movers’.The ceremony will last about 45 minutes followed by an Oneg (light snack reception).

You didn’t ask, but just a word of advice. If your child resists wearing the outfit you have chosen, don’t push it. While this is a great day for breaking out your child’s party clothes, we would like this special day to be a positive experience for you and your child. You may choose to send the offending article of clothing to school in a bag and the teachers will try to work their magic. You may also choose to go with ‘plan B’ and let your child wear his ‘comfort’ clothes. Years from now the memory of this day should be the pride your child feels about his/her participation in the ceremony, not what was worn during it.

Warmly,
Carol & Andrea
