Contact: Mindy Schreff:

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year-  We hope your families are safe and weathered the hurricane without mishap.  Please let us know if your temple family can be of any assistance.

“If you want to help a friend out of the mire, don’t hesitate to get a little dirty”- a quote which  exemplifies how I would like our students to experience helping others.  There will be many opportunities for students to “get a little dirty” and explore what it means to be part of a caring community.  Our theme this year will be “Yad B’Yad”: Hand in Hand.   Throughout the year we will be learning about the power of one; how one act of kindness can make a difference; these acts can be simple yet mean so much.

We begin the school year on September 11th , which marks the 10th anniversary of a difficult day in American history, yet also a day when so many people came together to help one another.  As a school community we will acknowledge the day by involving students in age-appropriate activities that will focus on the acts of human kindness that took place in the aftermath. Parents, please join your children for an assembly at 11am  to share the end of our school day.

At the end of the morning, we will be building a “promise tree” on our grounds. Each child will receive a paper tag, on which they will write or draw something they promise to do in the coming year that will make a difference in the life of one person. In this way, we honor the memories of the lives lost with promises for a better future.

Looking forward to a year together of learning by doing,

Mindy Schreff
