REPAIRING THE WORLD

Interfaith Food Pantry Fundraiser:  The Balloon Dance fundraiser to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges is this Friday, June 8, 5:15pm-7:15pm.  Tickets for this teen dance are only $15 each, with sponsorship opportunities starting at just $15.  To order tickets or pledge a donation, email Janet Schwamm.  Your contribution makes a big difference in the lives of so many people that fight hunger daily.

Bring One:  Make it a habit to bring one non-perishable food item – canned veggies, beans, pasta, peanut butter, soup – EACH TIME you come to Temple to help support our community and the Interfaith Food Pantry.

IFP Soup Kitchen & COORDINATOR NEEDED:  Sign up now for future IFP Soup Kitchen dates – the first Saturday of each month.  There are many ways to be involved: provide food, provide paper goods, serve food, clean up – do it all or choose just one.  We welcome all participation.  If you have questions or are interested in participating or coordinating, please email Robin Greenberg to be placed on her email list.

Transportation is available for congregants who need a ride to services and temple events.  Contact Alice Forman at (973)736-3467 if you need a ride or if you can offer a ride to others.

ParashaWEEKLY PARASHA

Parasha B’haalot’cha

Numbers 8:1-12:16

This parasha describes a cloud that covers the Tabernacle when the Israelites are traveling through the wilderness.  When the cloud settles, the Israelites consider that God has commanded them to set up camp.  When the cloud lifts, they are commanded to continue their journey.  The Israelites continue to wander in the desert and complain bitterly to Moses about having nothing to eat but manna.  Moses, in turn, complains to God about having sole responsibility for all the people.  God instructs Moses to gather 70 elders who will share the burden of leadership with him.  Moses’ siblings, Miriam and Aaron, criticize Moses for his marriage to a “Cushite” woman.  God is angered by their criticism and Miriam is stricken with leprosy.  Moses and Aaron plead with God to cure her.  She is exiled from the camp for seven days and then allowed to return.  The people wait for Miriam to return before moving on.
