From the URJ:
Millions of Americans have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Lives have been lost, homes and businesses have been destroyed, and entire communities have been changed forever. Many are left without power, heat and fuel for cooking or driving.
The Reform Movement has already reached out to impacted communities to offer food, supplies, space, and more and has established the URJ Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund, which will provide:
- Direct funding to congregants who are suffering short- or long-term loss of food, shelter or clothing;
- Direct funding to general and Jewish relief agencies in coordination with the Jewish Federations, Nechama – the Jewish Response to Disaster and others.
- Direct funding to Reform congregations damaged by the storm to help them resume operations as quickly as possible;
Now more than ever, our community can make a big impact in the lives of those devastated by Sandy. More information about volunteering and additional donation opportunities will be shared next week when it is available.
* 100% of donations minus credit card fees go directly to relief efforts.
From the UJC:
Community Update & Storm Assistance Information
We hope that you and your families are safe as we begin to confront the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. We mourn the loss of life and our hearts go out to those who are affected by the aftermath. We are very concerned for the welfare of our community members, neighbors, and businesses adversely affected by the storm which caused such vast damage throughout the Tri-State area.
We want to share information and updates to the Greater MetroWest community and provide emergency contact information to help you through this very difficult time. Though the Federation and many of our partner agencies have been without power since Monday, we want to offer ways to access help or emergency assistance if needed.
Due to the storm, the Federation phone lines are not working. Effective Monday morning, the Federation temporary phone number is (973) 585-9222 and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday until normal phone service is restored.
An emergency mailbox has been opened, the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. Funds raised will be used to provide aid to our agencies to assist the community and others impacted by this disaster, including the frail and isolated. more
