TSTI Religious School – May Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Wasn’t it just early September? The year has flown by, and when I look back, I see how much all of our students have grown, not just physically but emotionally and spiritually as well.  As I visit classrooms, I am in constant awe of the depth of discussions going on, even among our youngest students!  You have raised thoughtful, generous and Jewishly literate young people.   Thank you parents for partnering with us to ensure your children have strong and unique connections to Judaism. We are blessed to have a dedicated passionate teaching staff, and a cadre of teen Madrichim who infuse their spirit and energy into every aspect of school life. Together we are able to accomplish amazing things!

Even though our formal school year has come to a close, there are several very special events where our temple community will gather and I hope you will join us.  First, please we will  acknowledge the perseverance of our High School Seniors on Friday, May 3rd, when they will lead us in worship as they get ready to leave for adventures of college life.  On the following Friday, May 10th, please honor all of our Preschool and Religious School teachers at the Teacher Appreciation Shabbat at 6 pm.   Please help honor our Confirmation students, who will confirm their Jewish connection on Friday, May 17th at 7:30 pmLast, but surely not least, on Friday, June 7th, at 7:30 pm, we will honor Rabbi Cohen, in celebration of his 20 years as our spiritual leader and teacher.  All of our students have learned a few songs and will be invited up to the bima to sing together in honor of Rabbi Cohen.  I hope you will join me at these events so that we can share those precious moments that bring us together as a community.

Mitzvah counter for May:   Total Count For This Year: 1,035

We are so very proud that our students are committed to Tikkun Olam: Healing the World.  Even though we did not quite make my challenge of 2013 mitzvot, we know that our students know the value of caring for others and we are so very lucky.  The total count for this year: 1,035 MITZVOT!  We came to that grand total last Tuesday when a group of our Seventh Graders made recycled bird feeders that will hang in our Preschool’s Wonderspace! These students learned the value of caring for animals right in our own backyard.  Keep up the good work!
