On Sunday, February 9, STISY (Sharey Tefilo-Israel’s Senior Youth Group) went snow tubing at Mountain Creek. With snow falling around and a fire pit to roast marshmallows, the teens came together for a day of fun and bonding.

TSTI In Israel Day 1
Our TSTI Day was full Sunday December 22, 2013. Our overnight flight landed at 9am. We got our bags and hit the ground running. We…
- took a stroll through Neve Zedek, one of the first neighborhoods of Tel Aviv and saw some of the meticulously restored historic homes.
- moved on to Independence Hall where Ben Gurion declared the establishment of Israel on May 14, 1948 and sat in the very same room where our founding fathers sat on that historic day!
- travelled down Rothschild Boulevard and saw some excellent examples of Bauhaus Architecture from the 1930’s.
After some free time at the hotel we drove to ‘Kerem Hateymanim’ (the Yemenite Vineyard) of Tel Aviv for a welcome dinner at the Maganda Restaurant.
Overnight at the Dan Panorama was a welcome chance to get some sleep before our first full day began.

From Cantor Moses…
Over the summer I was asked to participate in an amazing new project by a powerful voice in Jewish music. Stacy Beyer, a Nashville recording artist, wrote an amazing setting of the Friday night Shabbat candle blessing, and, instead of simply recording the song herself, she recruited a group of 66 cantors, songleaders, and rabbis to record it with her. We all recorded our parts and sent them in to her extremely talented engineer and the result is something truly wonderful. The final recording is now available for downloading from the URJ Books and Music website here.
All proceeds from the sale of this piece of music benefit the Religious Action Center. For 50 years, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (“the RAC”) has been the hub of Jewish social justice and legislative activity in Washington, D.C. As the DC office of the Union for Reform Judaism, the RAC educates and mobilizes the Reform Jewish community on legislative and social concerns, advocating on more than 70 different issues, including economic justice, civil rights, religious liberty, Israel and more. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, the RAC’s advocacy work is completely non-partisan and pursues public policies that reflect the Jewish values of social justice that form the core of our mandate.
I hope you enjoy the piece as much as I enjoyed being a part of it!

Typoon Haiyan, PhilippinesIn the early morning hours of November 9, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines. The equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane, the storm displaced hundreds of thousands of people throughout the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and the region’s Pacific Islands. Initial accounts indicate that as many as 10,000 lives have been lost, and authorities and aid groups from all over the world, including North America and Israel, are struggling to deliver safe drinking water, food, and life-saving supplies to disaster zones.
The URJ General Disaster Relief Fund is collecting donations that will be distributed to aid groups working in affected areas. Visit urj.org/relief to join this effort.
